Accessibility Statement
Last updated 17th March 2025
1. Overview
The Kitt app is designed to help office tenants manage their workspace experience, including booking desks and meeting rooms, managing visitors, accessing doors, and communicating with building management. We are committed to ensuring our app is accessible to all users, including those with disabilities, and we are continuously working to improve the accessibility of our application.
2. Compliance & Standards
We strive to align our accessibility efforts with recognized standards and guidelines, including:
- WCAG 2.1 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) - While primarily designed for web applications, many of these principles apply to mobile applications as well.
- EN 301 549 - The European standard for digital accessibility requirements.
- iOS and Android Accessibility Guidelines - Platform-specific guidelines provided by Apple and Google.
Our current implementation includes some accessibility features, and we are working toward broader compliance with these standards.
3. Key Accessibility Features
Vision Impairment Support
- Screen Reader Compatibility: Some components in our app include accessibility labels for screen readers like VoiceOver (iOS) and TalkBack (Android). For example, our Avatar component includes proper labeling.
- Text Scaling: Our text components use relative font sizes that can adapt to system font size settings.
- Color Contrast: Our design system uses a color palette designed to provide sufficient contrast for users with low vision.
Motor Impairment Support
- Touch Targets: Interactive elements like buttons are designed with adequate size to be easily tappable.
- Simple Gestures: The app primarily uses simple tap gestures rather than complex multi-touch interactions.
Cognitive Accessibility
- Consistent Navigation: The app maintains a consistent navigation structure throughout.
- Clear Interface: We use a clean, uncluttered interface with clear labeling and visual hierarchy.
- Error Prevention: Form inputs include validation to help prevent errors.
4. Limitations & Planned Improvements
While we have implemented some accessibility features, we acknowledge that our app has room for improvement. Current limitations include:
- Inconsistent Screen Reader Support: Not all components have proper accessibility labels and hints.
- Limited Keyboard/Switch Device Support: The app may not fully support external keyboards or switch control devices.
- Incomplete Testing: We have not conducted comprehensive accessibility testing across all features.
Our planned improvements include:
- Implementing comprehensive screen reader support across all components
- Enhancing keyboard and switch device compatibility
- Conducting regular accessibility audits and user testing
- Providing alternative navigation methods for users with motor impairments
- Improving focus management for screen reader users
5. Testing & Validation
Our current accessibility testing process includes:
- Developer testing using screen readers (VoiceOver on iOS and TalkBack on Android)
- Internal review of color contrast and text sizing
- User feedback collection
We plan to expand our testing to include:
- Formal accessibility audits by third-party specialists
- User testing with individuals who use assistive technologies
- Automated accessibility testing as part of our development workflow
